Velteen Jean Esaw
Velteen J. Esaw (Velma) was born on August 8, 1946, to her loving parents in Desha County, McGhee, Arkansas.
Mom transitioned to her eternal resting place on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, surrounded by family.
Mom attended school in the Little Rock School District. She was a hard worker and a great provider for her children. She always worked multiple jobs, Timex being her longest place of employment – working over 22 years until she retired. She knew all the ins and outs when it came to repairing a watch.
Mom accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She was an active member in the church, serving in the choir and ministry. She received her license as an ordained minister in Anchorage, Alaska under the leadership of Pastor Jarvis Odom. She remained an active member at New Hope Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas until her health failed.
Mom was a happy-go-lucky person. She would always look for the good in a bad situation. She loved to travel and go out to eat with her friends. They had many “hit the road” adventures, as she would say.
Mom loved family get togethers and spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She would always get them a lot of “no brand”, “we don’t eat that” snacks, but the grands would enjoy them just because they were from “GiGi”.
Mom lived her best life. She was a vibrant, cheerful, loving 76-year-old Mom, Grandma, GiGi that will be missed immensely. She has given us good advice and left us with great memories.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, one daughter, Jan Esaw, granddaughter, Alexis Esaw-Khabeer, two sisters, and five brothers.
Mom will forever be cherished by sons, Randy Esaw (Katherine) of Saint Clarksville, Ohio, Tony Esaw (Annetra) of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter, Renee Ganaway (Reverend Dwayne) of Malvern, Arkansas; 42 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Nellie Mosley, one brother, Willie Scott (Kay), and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, 11:00am at New Hope Baptist Church, 1851 Howard Street.
