Susan M. Means

Susan Michele was born October 16, 1959, in Washington, D.C. to the late Lois Audrey Geter Murphy and Earl Landa Murphy. She was an only child and cherished by both of her parents. She also had a very special bond with her grandmother, the late Elsie Nichols Geter Wright. Susan attended Sacred Heart elementary school and graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame in 1977. She proudly received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Howard University in 1982. Susan had a compassionate and loving soul and served others for more than 35 years up until her retirement in 2018.

Of course, if you know Susan, you know that she is so much more than these two above traits. She is spontaneous, adventure seeking, brave, passionate, flamboyant, witty, and truly connected with those around her no matter what life situation she found herself. Even after retirement, Susan volunteered at a hospital and a nursing home to share her spark of life and laughter with patients in need.

With a joy seeking spirit, Susan not only traveled different parts of the United States but was a world traveler. She hopped on cruises to the Caribbean with friends and happily joined her children on trips to Europe and Africa. Eventually, she settled in Houston, Texas where she found her home at Lakewood Church. She was very involved in the church community passing along the teachings of Christ to her family. Susan’s legacy lives on through her son, Christian (LaShara) Means, her daughter Traci (Nnamdi) Ogbu, her daughter Candice (Julian) Reed and eight grandchildren (Kiara, Jillian, Ebubenna, Onyinye, Anwuli, Jordan, Tegan and Xea.) Susan entered eternal peace on May 31, 2024, and will be truly missed.

Funeral services will be held Thursday June 6, 2024, at 10:00am at Soul Winning Temple Church of God in Christ, 708 West 38th Street in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 6:00pm until 7:00pm in the Hardy Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.
