Shirley Faye Hollman was born on May 7, 1938, to Emma Pickens and Roosevelt Jackson in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She was the fifth of six children: Lizzie, George, Arvelle, James, and Rose. Shirley was a loving mother to Tekima Hollman and Wallace Sims, Sr.

Shirley graduated from Scipio A. Jones High School Class of 1956 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Following high school, she went on to earn her cosmetology license from Velvatex College of Beauty in Little Rock, Arkansas where she later earned her cosmetology instructor license. As an instructor, she shared her craft with many aspiring cosmetologists throughout Arkansas at the only cosmetology school for African Americans in the state. For more than four decades, she worked as a beautician helping others enhance their natural beauty. Shirley was also a trailblazing businesswoman who grew her small beauty shop to a successful full-service beauty parlor in Little Rock, Arkansas. After decades as a devoted member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas, Shirley rededicated her life to Christ at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Preceding Shirley in death include her husband, James “Jim” Hollman, her son, Wallace Sims, Sr., her parents, Emma Pickens and Roosevelt Jackson, and her siblings, Lizzie, George, Arvelle, and Rose.

In addition, she is survived by the people whose lives she touched throughout her journey and the children she loved as her own.

Shirley’s dedication to family and her Christian faith led all aspects of her life. Many have cherished memories of her boldness, determination, and unmatched sense of humor. Shirley found special joy in expressing herself through her flair for fashion, her striking beauty, and the unmistakable scent of her signature fragrance – Clinique Aromatic Elixir. She was a compassionate caregiver who sacrificed for her family to dutifully serve others in their times of need. Shirley was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose memory lives on through her many loving acts of kindness and the profound impact she had on the lives of others.
