Shirley Ann Baker Finister, affectionately known as “Shirl the Pearl”, passed away on August 16, 2024, in her hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. Born to Troy Sr. and Alice Baker on September 26, 1948, in Little Rock, she was a beacon of light and warmth in the community she dearly loved.
Shirley was a cherished member of the Baker family, sister to Rita Baker and the late Troy Jr. as well as the late Wanda Baker. She married her beloved late Huey Finister, marking the beginning of a shared life filled with love and devotion.
Shirley’s love extended to her two children, Andrea Parker and Virginia Finister, who remember her as a nurturing soul, always ready with a comforting word or an engaging story. Her five grandchildren, Troyori, Courtney, Sir, Wade (Infiniti Kelley), and Wendolyn, will carry her legacy of kindness and joy. She is also survived by her eight great-grandchildren, Brian, Parker, Payton, Kai’den, Brooklyn, Ayah, Landen, and Ralston.
An avid nurse, master of storytelling, and a keen grandmother, Shirley also graced many with her cooking and baking skills. Her famous 7-Up poundcake made many people’s stomachs happy! Throughout her life, Shirley was a devoted homemaker, mother, wife, nurse, and grandmother. Her legacy will live on through the countless memories, stories, and lessons she shared with her loved ones.
Preceded in death by her parents, Troy Baker Sr. and Alice Baker, and her brother Troy Jr. as well as sister, Wanda Baker and husband, Huey Finister. Shirley’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her sister Rita, children, grand and great-children, and a community that was better for her presence.
