Renita L. Jones-Thompson

Renita Loretta (Jones) Thompson ,55, was born in Sweet Home, Arkansas on Monday, March 13, 1967 to the late Robert Lee Jones Sr. and Margretta Gaddie Jones. Renita received her education through the Pulaski County Special School District graduating from Wilbur D. Mills High School in 1985 and she later obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Interpretation for the Hearing Impaired and Human Resources from The University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1989.

Renita was added to the Lord’s church at a young age and had a close and personal relationship with God. Renita accepted and was baptized into Christ at McAlmont Church of Christ in 1980. After many years there, the Jones family moved their membership to 16th Street Church of Christ (now known as East Side Church of Christ). Her journey with Christ led her to Central Church of Christ, formerly known as Barrow Road Church of Christ, under the guidance of Brother Leon Barnes and ultimately rooted her at Colonel Glenn Church of Christ until the time of her passing. Renita was active in all church locations. At Central Church of Christ, Renita volunteered at Central’s Camp Caudle yearly, she worked in the children’s ministry as a Sunday school teacher, and volunteered her time as an interpreter for the hearing impared. At Colonel Glenn, Renita was active in many food drives to assist the less fortunate, she was also active on Tuesday night bible study and volunteered often with the Church’s event team. When at East Side Church of Christ Renita led children’s bible study.

Renita was just as giving as she was beautiful and that was directly reflected by the love of her co-workers at her jobs. Renita was a faithful employee with Wal-Mart for nearly 40 years in both California and Arkansas. Renita also worked as a receptionist at Bowman mini-storage for over 15 years part time. She was also an associate at T.J. Maxx for over 10 years part time. Her co-workers often revered her as “mama Renita” because of her willingness to go above and beyond to help any and everyone.

Renita’s passions included traveling with her family, SNO Sisters and the Sensational Six.

She loved watching Packer football games, and spending quality time with her family and friends. Renita’s favorite place to travel was anywhere with a beach. She was extremely adventurous and would try almost anything at least once. Her favorite experience from her travels was on a family cruise to the Virgin Islands where she was able to parasail 1,000 feet in the air. Though many didn’t know about her passion for travel, everyone knew her passion for Packer football. Renita was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. She watched every game that she could and even made a point to travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin and tour the Packer’s stadium.

Though she had passion for the things listed above, nothing superseded the love Renita had for Christ and her family. Her family was her pride and joy. Renita was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother and Nah-Nah. Renita loved hosting her families for holidays and Sunday dinners. She loved any reason to get the family together.

Renita Loretta Thompson transcended this earth and received her wings on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 5:01pm. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Jones, Sr. her sister, Rosland Lolita Jones, and her mother- in law Thelma Thompson. She leaves fond and beautiful memories to her husband, Steven; her daughters, Brianna (Kerry) Young and Tiara Thompson; her only son, Darius Thompson; her only grandchild, Kaidence Young; her mother, Margretta Jones; three siblings, Robbie (Jerome) Cullen, Rhonda (Jerome) Perkins and Robert Lee Jones, Jr and nieces, nephews, special friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, 11:00am, Lewis Street Church of Christ, 2716 Lewis Street, Little Rock, Arkansas. The family will receive friends Friday, October 14, 2022, 6-7pm, Colonel Glenn Church of Christ, 7001 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Arkansas.
