Pecolua Dawson Nwobodo
Pecolua Dawson Nwobodo was born on March 28, 1952, in El Dorado, AR to Mr. Cecil and Mrs. Jessie Boone Dawson. The 3rd of seven children and the baby girl of the family. Pecolua was raised in the close-knit community of Beulah Grove, surrounded by both her maternal and paternal sides of the family. She was educated in the El Dorado Public School System. When she reached the 7th grade, she was extremely excited to finally be a Booker T. Washington Hornet. In high school she excelled in career and technical education, especially typing and shorthand. She was a graduate of El Dorado High School’s first fully integrated graduating class of 1970.
Pecolua pursued post-secondary education at Oil Belt Vocational Technical School and Southern Arkansas University – El Dorado Branch, where she was awarded certificates in Secretarial Science. These skills led to her relocating to Little Rock, subsequently earning her employment with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She remained with UAMS for 25 years working her way up through several departments and positions. Her most recent employment was with Fox Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was most recently awarded with a plague naming her employee of the month. Beginning at the age of 18, she proudly served others in the healthcare industry for over 53 years.
Pecolua was very active in her church and with the women’s ministry. Growing up in El Dorado, she attended the Barnes Street Church of Christ, which later moved to Cargile Street. Upon first relocating to Little Rock she placed membership with the East 16th Street Church of Christ. After moving to North Little Rock, she moved her membership to the Rose City Community Church of Christ, where she was a faithful and dedicated member even through failing health.
Pecolua transitioned peacefully and was welcomed to a new home on Monday, August 14, 2023, by her husband Roland Nwobodo, parents Cecil and Jessie Dawson, sister Carolyn Dawson McGee, and brother Rickey Dawson. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter Tamara Dawson Donley (Terry) of Sherwood, AR; two grandsons, Brandon Scott, North Little Rock and Evan Donley, Sherwood; one sister, Eva Dawson Lowe (Jerry), Rockford, IL; three brothers, Travis Dawson, Sr. (Leesa), Vince Dawson, both of El Dorado, and Cecil Lewis Dawson, Rockford, IL; nephews, Eric Lowe, Kevin Lowe (Darlene), Travis Dawson, Jr., Cedric Dawson and Vince Louis Dawson; nieces, Monica Levingston (Laviaikio), Khadijah Simpson (Gary), Penny L. Martin, Trenita Dawson, Britney Johnson (Dorell), Lauren Dawson, and Natalie Dawson; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 26. 2023 at 11:00am, Rose City Community Church of Christ5601 Lynch Drive, North Little Rock. The family will receive friends Friday, August 25, 2023 from 6:00-7:00pm at Hardy Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 5300 West 12th Street.
