Oweater Porter

May 11, 1942 — January 7, 2024

Oweater Clingmon Porter was born May 11, 1942, in Humnoke, Arkansas to the late Herman and Helen Clingmon. She grew up in the North Little Rock area but would spend many years in the College Station community. Oweater was the oldest of seven children and would often take on the role of mother to her siblings.

She graduated from S.A. Jones High School. Oweater retired from Timex after 43 years of loyal service. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age while attending Leach Chaple CME Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

On December 29, 1961, Oweater was united in Holy Matrimony to Franklin “Frank” Porter Sr. She was a loyal and faithful wife. To this union, three sons were born: Marlon, Franklin Jr., and Byron. These dedicated sons loved and cherished their mother. Oweater was like a sister to her in-laws and spent many hours each day in conversation with them.

Oweater was an avid fisher and loved fishing with family and friends. She was a devoted tennis fan and was extremely happy when Coco Gauff sent her a video saying hello and thanking her for supporting her during her tennis career. Oweater was known to give the best hugs, to cook some good meals and to love on all her grandchildren. Oweater was a strong woman with a quiet persona.

Oweater entered eternal rest on January 7, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Porter Sr; parents, Herman and Helen Clingmon; brothers, Henry and Ronnie Clingmon. In-laws: Merle Porter, Ira Akins Sr, Alice Akins, Jack Porter, Ira Akins Jr, Dororthy Coleman and Julia Kelley.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Marlon (LaNetra), Frank Jr. (Sharon) and Bryon; four siblings: Sherrye Clingmon (James), Ruben Clingmon (Maxine), Terry Clingmon (Nita) and Derrick Clingmon (Kim).

Oweater was very proud of her grandchildren: Cleavonda, Corsica, Zana, Kiara, Aislinn, Brandon, Bryanna, Nicolas, Allen and Kelis and four great grandchildren: Summer, Lauryn, Lance and Rileigh. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including a special friend, Bobbie Johnson.

She will also be remembered with love by her in-laws: Willie Coleman, Joyce Porter, Carolyn Akins-Croom, Myra Murray (Don), Gloria Hall (Knoxie Jr), Carl Akins (Beryl), Evelyn Akins, Alicia Hodge, Terri Kawee (Kawiim), Ronald Akins (Vassie), and Latonia Akins-Owens.

The family will celebrate her life with a memorial service on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 6:00PM in the Hardy Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Final care has been entrusted to the caring and professional staff of Hardy Funeral Home, 5300 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72204.
