Funeral services will be held Saturday August 27, 2022, 12:00pm, Zion Chapel MBC, 557 Peebles Street in Eudora, Arkansas. The family will receive friends Friday August 26, 2022 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Nation of Kings Church, 2019 Watt Street in Little Rock.On Sunday, May 24, 1970, a beautiful, brown baby girl was born, who her mother later described as, “the greatest daughter anyone could ever ask for, and my best friend for life.” Others referred to her as “Ran”, “Chocolate”, “Te-te”, “Auntie”, “Princess”, “Godmother”, and perhaps her favorite one of all, “Mama” (though “Granna” was becoming a close second).
Miranda attended Eudora Public Schools, in Eudora, Arkansas. A few of her many accomplishments were being inducted into the National Honor Society, being elected to the Student Council for multiple terms, being a member of the Flag Girls with the EHS Marching Band, and being named Ms. EHS, after wowing the crowd with her vocal performance during the talent portion of the pageant. This all culminated in her graduating with honors, in May 1988. She immediately attended the University of Central Arkansas. She later transferred and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM), with a Bachelor of Social Work degree. Miranda was a part of the first cohort of the UAM Social Work Program. It was the academic success of Miranda and her classmates which served as the early steps of the program receiving accreditation. After graduating, Miranda immediately began working at the Arkansas Department of Human Services – Division of Children and Family Services, until doctors determined she could no longer meet the challenges of the work. From that point on, she referred to herself as a “retired Social Worker” and continued to mentor and encourage other aspiring Social Workers.
At age 6, Miranda was baptized by the late Rev. E. D. Handie Sr., and became an active member of the Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, in Eudora, Arkansas, later led by Pastor Glenn Donald. She served as the Sunday School Secretary, a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and later found great joy serving as an usher. After relocating to Little Rock, AR, she initially attended Eighth Street Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Kaderick Jones, and later became a founding member of Nation of Kings Assembly, initially pastored by Kaderick Jones and currently led by Minister Meshunda Myles. After poor health prevented her physical presence at church, she continued to enjoy the broadcasts and found great support and comfort in her daily 6:00am Prayer Call, forging strong relationships with others, as they would often call and visit her in the hospital. She was so grateful for the numerous Prayer Call participants, many of whom she never got to meet in person.
Miranda was first married to Anthony Smith, a chapter in her story worth mentioning, as it produced her loving daughter, Yasmine. She later married André Jones. With August 30th being their 25th Wedding Anniversary, plus 2 years together before that, they spent over half their lives in romantic relationship and the half before that, they spent loving each other as best friends. She never dreamed they would one day marry, he said he always knew.
On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, Miranda departed this life and entered into eternity, where she was surely welcomed by “Mother” Emit Love; her grandparents, Isaiah Dickerson, Mary Turner, Willie “Bear” Webb, and especially Artelia “Mama TT” Webb; “Daddy William” Mays, her little brother, Carlton Rashad; and a host of other family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her parents, Faye Mays, of Eudora Arkansas and Charles Dickerson (Shirley) of Wiesbaden, Germany; her devoted husband, André Jones, of Little Rock, AR; their children, Alecia Jones, of Mesquite, TX, Yasmine and Tony Heard, and Mason Jones, all of Little Rock, AR; two grandchildren, “Princess” Cadence Jae Livingston and “Granna’s Sweet Thang” Tony Dylan Heard; two sisters, Phedra Watkins, of Eudora, Arkansas and Regina Dickerson of Severn, MD; one brother, William T. Mays (Tracy) of Lakeport, AR; two aunts, Geraldine “Aunt Gwen” Reaves, and Elzada Russell; her mother-in-love, Helen Jones, who Miranda often referred to as “my person”; numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, sister friends, and other family.
