Mattie Beatrice Harris
Mattie Beatrice Addison-Harris was born June 28, 1951 in Little Rock, AR and raised by her late adopted parents, Willie Addison and Vernon Jones. She is preceded in death by both parents; husband, Andrew Lee Harris (19 years); her angelic son, Terry Glass; and two great-great grandchildren: Sunnie Cooley and Tristan Gatewood.
She was a graduate of the Little Rock School District. Later in life she happily married Willie C. Cooley, she bore four children. As a mother, she demonstrated unconditional love and everlasting sacrifice. As fate would have it, she helped raised her grandchildren and played an instrumental role in the strong women they are today. She was actively committed to her church home, First Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. During her tenure, she served fervently as the President of the Mother Board, a devout member of the Choir, Assistant Director of the Youth department, Evangelism Ministry, and a dedicated Hospitality team member.
Mattie was always dependable and devoted. She was a humble spirit, yet she did not mind speaking her mind. She always enjoyed a good laugh and ensured those around her did the same. As life brought its ups and downs, she remained resilient and steadfast, displaying an unmovable faith. She was a walking example of consistency, dedication, and hard work.
Mattie transitioned on Monday, May 22, 2023, surrounded in love by her family. In her memory, she would love for breast cancer awareness to continue. To her family, she leaves her legacy of strength and commitment, encouraging love, light, and laughter in all pursuits.
She is survived by her one daughter, Brenda Cooley; and three sons, Tony Addison, Steve Cooley, and Robert Cooley, all of Little Rock, AR; seven grandchildren: Barron Pippens, Tahanne Cooley, LaQuesia Cooley, Latorria Mayo (Cedric Mayo), Japonica Bailey, Stormy Bailey, and Keya Cooley of Little Rock AR; 26 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends who she also considered family, namely her church friends, Lutricia Peterson and Dorothy Martin. Thank you for always being near and dear.
