Rev. Harry Lee Gordon, Sr. was born July 13, 1950, in St. Louis, MO to Henry Gordon (Viola) and Willie Mae Black.
Harry received his formal education in the St. Louis public school system and later was drafted to serve in the United States Army in 1971, where he served as a weapons specialist. He received an honorary discharge. Before moving to Arkansas, he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a welder and later transferred to the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) in North Little Rock, AR in 1986. He served on numerous committees such as the Black Employee Network of Arkansas, and the UPRR softball team, and was the official photographer for the UPRR magazine. Harry retired after 38 years in 2016.
Harry accepted the Lord as his savior at a young age at Lively Stone Church of God in Christ in St. Louis, MO. Upon relocating to Arkansas, Harry joined the Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in 1990 in Little Rock, AR under the leadership of Bishop LT Walker serving as an usher and a van driver. In 1993, Harry joined the New Hope Baptist Church in North Little Rock, AR serving under the leadership of Rev. ED Lairry. He faithfully served as the president of the usher board for numerous years before aligning with the Greater New Hope fellowship in 1999. Harry was ordained as a deacon and later accepted his calling to minister on December 28, 2013, and was licensed to preach by the state of Arkansas in 2014. God’s assignment for Harry led him to New Covenant Family Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Benard Baker in September 2017, where he served faithfully until his final days. Serving God was something Rev. Gordon loved to do until God called him home on February 11, 2024.
Harry was united in Holy Matrimony with Joyce Sakil. To that union, one daughter was born, Rolla Hunt.
Harry was later joined in holy matrimony to Nadine Harris in June 1981. They remained married for 39 years until her passing in March 2020. To this union two children were born, Seanta Hammonds and Harry Gordon, Jr.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one daughter, Rolla Hunt; and siblings LaCresia Paige, Katherine Hill, Joyce Hill, Henry Gordon, and Loretta Gordon.
He leaves to cherish sweet memories one daughter, Seanta Hammonds of North Little Rock, AR, and one son, Harry Gordon Jr. of Tampa, FL; six grandchildren, Marcus Cartwright of Oklahoma City, OK, Caramalita Cartwright of Dallas, TX, Zhion Hammonds and Zaria Hammonds of North Little Rock, AR, Ky’rie Gordon and Kyier Gordon of Tampa, FL; one great-granddaughter; Za’Mira Mims of Dallas, TX; and one brother, Paul Gordon of St. Louis, MO. Harry was blessed to have bonus children, family, and a host of friends including the “Slammers” volleyball team at the Patrick Hays Senior Center whom he loved with all of his heart.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, 11:00am at New Covenant Family Ministries, 1245 Parkway Drive, North Little Rock, Arkansas. A walk-through visitation will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 from 1-7pm at Hardy Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 5300 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72204.
