Georgia Mae Johnson

January 26, 1949 — September 26, 2024

On January 26, 1949, in Ladd, Arkansas, a beautiful soul was born—Georgia Mae Scott Johnson—who would go on to touch the lives of so many. Born to the late Mozella Hubbard Topps and the late Jeff Scott, Georgia's story of love and family began early. In June 1950, just shy of her first birthday, Georgia’s mother married E.J. Topps, who became a true father figure. They shared an inseparable bond of love, and he raised her as his own daughter. Georgia, along with her siblings, grew up in a close-knit family where looking out for one another was more than a value; it was a way of life.

Georgia attended public schools in Benton & Pine Bluff before graduating for Little Rock’s Horace Mann High School in 1968. Her strong faith was rooted in her upbringing, and on April 9, 1959, she was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ at Christ Temple Pentecostal Church under the leadership of her cousin, Pastor Ruby Holland. In 1962, when Bishop Leodies Warren became pastor, Georgia faithfully served under his leadership and later received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. She remained a lifelong member of Greater Christ Temple, serving under the leadership of Bishop Warren’s son, Elder Jerry Warren, until her health began to fail. Georgia’s faith served as a firm foundation throughout her life.

On October 19, 1974, Georgia united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Robert Lee Johnson. Their union was blessed with five beautiful children: twins Reginald and Rodney followed by Karen, Eric and Joy.

Georgia had an infectious spirit and always brought warmth and laughter to those around her. She was known for her love of food, often sending her husband, children, nieces, and nephews on “chicken runs” or store errands to satisfy her cravings. Her quick wit and humor made her a joy to be around, and she had a way of making everyone feel at ease. Known for her love of "soaps," Georgia never missed an episode and collected Soap Opera Digest magazines to stay up to date on the drama. She also cherished long phone conversations with her friends, often talking for hours, sharing stories and laughter. Georgia had an open heart and never held a grudge, choosing instead to focus on love and kindness in all her relationships.

Her home was a sanctuary for many—especially for the youth in her neighborhood and the young saints from her church. Georgia opened her doors to them, offering love, guidance, and refuge, often welcoming them into her home at all hours of the night. She was a nurturer at heart, and for a time, she ran an in-home daycare, supporting single mothers and helping care for their children.

After a lengthy and courageous battle with dementia, Georgia Mae Scott Johnson departed this life on September 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Her presence may no longer be with us, but her spirit, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Georgia is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Evangelist Mozella Topps; her stepfather, Mr. E.J. Topps, and her biological father, Mr. Jeff Scott; her sister, Sis. Topps; her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Clara Minor and Mrs. Joyce Smith; her           brother-in-law, Mr. Darryl Holland; and her cherished friends, Mrs. Peggy Coleman and Ms. Alice Faye Jefferson.
