On the evening of September 21, 2024, Ellis Portis, passed away.
Ellis was born March 27, 1947, in Little Rock, AR to the late Edward Portis Sr. and Rosa Lee Woods. He was the third of four children, with two of his siblings preceding him in death (Christine Fells and Edward Portis Jr.).
Growing up Ellis was not the most sociable of the group, but rather shy and reserved. As he grew and experienced life, this would change as he transformed into the life of the party. He mastered the talent of turning a difficult time into one of happiness.
Ellis loved life and celebrated it to the fullest. He loved attending family gatherings and events; where you could find him dancing, laughing, and enjoying life which may have included a delicious beverage or two. Although he never had children, he loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own.
He worked in the hospitality industry until his health prevented him from doing so, which was no surprise as he loved people and catering to their needs. He prioritized supporting others, always making sure he could contribute to others in any way he could.
Ellis was a spiritual person as well. He enjoyed attending church and had no problem displaying his happiness during praise and worship as it was his favorite portion of service.
Spending time with his family and friends was the most important thing. He would give you his last or the clothes right off his back as he would say. Ellis was always wearing a smile on his face and constantly looking out for others even putting the needs of those around him before his own needs. He will be missed for his infectious laugh and positive outlook on life.
He leaves to mourn and forever cherish his memory brother, Tezell Portis; best friend Virge Tucker and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
